In the golden hours after sunrise or before sunset, the animals in Jasper National Park become more active, and this tour offers the best opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat.

Highlights

Throughout the season we search for different species based on seasonal vegetation, weather and mating patterns. Some of the more common animals we find are elk, deer, bighorn sheep, bears, and bald eagles — occasionally moose, mountain goats or coyotes are also encountered.

As you meander slowly down the valley in our comfortable minibus, you’ll gaze out large windows at stunning views of the mountains and surrounding wilderness, providing ample opportunity to capture your memories through photographs.

Your local guide uses their expertise to select the route based on seasonal wildlife movements, increasing your chances of encounters. Along the way, you’ll learn valuable insights into the challenges of managing and protecting wildlife within the national park. Our guide is eager to answer your questions as they passionately share the magic of Jasper’s wild side, bringing the stories of the animals to life.

Jasper National Park is a wild and natural environment and every day is unique. Sightings are frequent but not guaranteed. We succeed in spotting wildlife on 95% of our tours.

FAQs

Do you guarantee wildlife sightings on the Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour?

Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, as animals move freely in their natural habitat.

However, we have a high success rate, with wildlife sightings on approximately 95% of tours. Each day is unique, and the types of animals seen vary based on seasonal activity and feeding patterns.

On the rare occasion that wildlife is not spotted, your guide will still provide engaging commentary about local wildlife, habitats, and the ecosystem, ensuring a rewarding and educational experience.

Is there a washroom on the Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour?

There is no washroom on the bus. However, with enough notice, your guide can stop at an outhouse along the route if needed.

What should I bring on the Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour?

Bring a water bottle and dress comfortably for the day’s weather. You may bring a small snack, but we recommend planning meals before or after the tour, as there are no scheduled stops. Tours may occasionally run longer than the scheduled 3 hours to maximize wildlife sightings, so avoid strict plans immediately afterward.

Is the Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour suitable for young children?

The tour is best suited for guests aged 5 and up, as it is a continuous vehicle-based experience with no scheduled stops. Younger children are welcome but may find the experience less engaging due to the unpredictable nature of wildlife sightings, and commentary is generally geared more toward adults.

Is it better to go in the morning or afternoon for a wildlife tour?

Wildlife is typically most active in the early morning and evening, but there is no guaranteed difference between morning and afternoon tours. We recommend choosing the time that best fits your schedule—your guide will always aim to maximize sightings.

How many people are on the Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour?

Tours operate in comfortable, air-conditioned minibuses with a maximum of 24 passengers, though groups are typically capped at 21 guests for added space and comfort.

How does the Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour work?

The Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour is a vehicle-based experience that follows a flexible route based on daily wildlife activity. Guides travel a mix of main highways and smaller local roads to maximize sightings. All wildlife viewing takes place from inside the bus, and the tour remains on paved roads in accordance with Parks Canada regulations.

What animals are we likely to see on the Jasper National Park Wildlife Tour?

Common wildlife sightings include elk, deer, bighorn sheep, bears, and bald eagles, with occasional sightings of moose, mountain goats, or coyotes. Your guide uses local knowledge and recent wildlife activity to help maximize your chances of seeing a variety of animals throughout the tour.

From Adventurers

The evening wildlife tour exceeded our expectations, both in the diversity of wildlife encountered and the quality of the tour guide/driver. We saw bald eagle, bighorn sheep, elk, moose and mule deer. Bear would have been good but it was not the best time of year for them. Josh was a fantastic guide, extremely knowledgeable, full of anecdotes and humorous. We stayed out longer than the scheduled time as there was so much to see.

Ross provides a fun and informative tour to those visiting Jasper to check out its wildlife evening tour. Enjoyed the hiking tour to Maligne Lake. It was chilly since it was October so layers were essential in the mountains along with a hot chocolate. Maligne Canyon is beautiful with its lichen lined walls bordering the aqua pool and waterfall. This is a definite must do adventure while in Jasper.

Beautiful setting and we saw moose! We were with a small group that split off into a smaller group for a hike or a cruise. We chose well! It's a short walk through the woods and near the lake. There's a nice waffle house and lunch room and seating by the lake and indoors for those that bring their own snacks. Highly recommend. Our guide, Catherine was a well informed, biologist / zoologist that had a lot of interest and context to our tour. We also saw sheep and elk along with stunning Mountain views
